HAMPSHIRE EQUESTRIAN ACADEMY
CHARTER SCHOOL
STATUS
FOR SEPTEMBER OPENING:
With facility clearance just days away, we are moving ahead for
a September opening. The Board has adopted 2 school calendars
(days in session and days on vacation). One calendar has school
beginning September 5th (day after Labor Day). A back-up calendar
starts the school 2 weeks later, September 18th. Within the week,
we expect to confirm the school’s start this September. All preliminary
hurdles are successfully jumped.
AUGUST
INFORMATION SESSION AND STUDENT INTERVIEWS:
Saturday, August 5th, is the last summer information session with
student application materials and interviews. 11:00 a.m. 60 Farmington
Road, Rochester. Please let
us know if you will be attending. Click for Directions.
STAFF:
The first year faculty of any school has daunting responsibilities.
And our small size requires finding qualified faculty who can
either teach more than one subject competently or who seek or
would enjoy part-time work. In addition, we would like our faculty
to share the passion for horses. We have confirmed half of our
teachers, and we're meeting and interviewing for science, math,
Spanish, business. To apply: info@nhequestrianacademy.org
or c/o 89 South Street, Concord, NH 03301.
Fortunately, we have very experienced backup staff
in place. To assure our school had course standards that are competitive,
we’ve conducted a study of 10 top independent schools, surveying
programs and guidelines for honors courses. Next week new staff
will begin collaborative work around curriculum, computer systems,
materials, scheduling.
THE
FIRST CELEBRATION—AUGUST 26TH—SATURDAY:
The Board’s fundraising plan includes 4 annual festivals. One
will be the Founders Day Bar-B-Q. All new students, parents, faculty,
and helpers will come together for the first time to meet, greet,
eat, and share ideas and information. We will have an activity
planned for everyone to mark the event. If a few parents would
like to help coordinate the food and cooking, this would be wonderful
so we are not distracted from other work. We expect 100 people.
Large grills welcome.
FUTURE
CAMPUS PLANS:
Architect Kelly Davis from Sumner Davis Architects in Portsmouth
is helping the school review its future campus site and develop
concept drawings for a marketing brochure. A serious capital campaign
will follow. The goal?--a barn, arena, equine studies center,
and academy building. If someone locates a donor, there will be
a reward. The school’s start will be humble in rented space, but
we will launch the campus effort right away and appreciate Architect
Davis’ interest and support.
